Polishing up the Bedroom

I finished the master bedroom recently, well actually awhile ago, but I’m finally getting around to posting the photos.  I didn’t really have much to do in this room since the wood floors were already refinished, but there was an outdated maroon floral border and some forest green curtains that didn’t quite work for me.  When I took these curtains down, the room suddenly brightened up and the light came through.

Here is the only before picture I took.

Well, actually I guess there were two.

I took down the border, which was surprisingly hard because little bits of the paper were stuck to the wall.  After getting it all down with some hot water spray, I painted the room a similar neutral color just so it was fresh.  I tried to wait until the sun came out for the pictures, but it seems the weather is not going to cooperate.  We have had non-stop rain for the last couple of days, including a couple tornadoes and golf-ball sized hail, so the photos aren’t as bright as I had hoped.

The curtains helped to lighten things up, and I really like this bedspread – it has such cute buttons and a beautiful flower print.

And the rest of the room…

That’s as far as we’ve gotten with the room, but I have some plans for the closet and for the furniture in the room.  Eventually the two nightstands from the garage sale will be in here, and I would also like to get some pictures up on the walls.  I’m hoping to put this one up behind the bed…. (got the picture from easyart.com)

Hopefully we’ll get down to the decorating details sometime in the near future, but until then it’s on to the living room floor!  I took my last final today so I’m free to work on whatever I want now, and floor refinishing is first on the list.

  1. Oh, that flower photo you took is beautiful, and I love the glass jar you put them in. Your room has come a long way already! Removing that old border made a huge difference. I also totally hear you on the constant rainy drizzle and storms… we had the same thing here for awhile. Which was a bummer, because I was really itchin’ to get outside and work on the patio some more. Oh well, maybe this weekend. :) Your bedroom is really starting to come together! Are you going to stain the floors when you refinish them? Everything’s really looking great, Anne!

  2. thanks chelsea! we had more rain today so i’m hoping it will clear up before the weekend. We’re not going to stain the floors- just natural finish- mainly so they will match the rest of the house. Hope you and Tom have a great weekend!

I love the feel of the room- so calm and orderly. The big round mirror looks good- nice and sparkly. Everything is coming together so quickly, which I’m sure that you can’t see, being in the thick of things, but from far away, it’s very good progress.
Keep up the good work (and the updates!)

  4. thanks mom! it’s hard to see that anything is progressing and sometimes I feel like we’re going backwards. It’s good to take a step back and look at the pictures to see the progress.

  5. Loving it, Anne! The Mason Jars are SO in and so chic. We’re seeing a lot of them in the wedding industry. Love it! Looking forward to seeing you Friday!!!!

  6. Thanks, savannah! I like the look of the jars too, and I have a lot of them hanging around the house so it’s convenient. Can’t wait to see you girls!

Anne – The bedroom looks great. It must be a nice refuge to go to after all of the storms you have been having. Love your cat on the bed. Your peonies really took a beating – glad you could salvage some of them. I think that you have accomplished a lot in such a short time.
    Love, Grandma Jan

  8. Thanks, Grandma! It is a nice place to go and have a nap when things get kind of crazy. I needed at least one finished room for sanity. :) I hope KC avoided all the storms, or at least the hail storms!

What color and brand of paint did you use on your bedroom walls?
