From Boring to Bright and Beautiful

As you can see, our hallway was a bit on the boring side.  The walls, trim, ceiling, and doors were all the same color and everything just seemed pretty drab.  I decided to go for a lighter greyish blue color on the walls and then a lighter version of that color on the ceiling.  I ended up going with Stony Path by Valspar for walls and Possibility for the ceiling.  The trim is the same white that I’ve used throughout the house- Pale Bloom by Valspar.

Okay so here are a couple more before photos.

I had started to paint some of the trim and walls at this point.

Now for the finished result, which came out really well in my humble opinion.

Remember this shelf from the thrift store…  Here’s what it used to look like.

Now with a fresh coat of white paint, it looks fabulous and is great for holding scarves, bags, and coats.

View from the TV room.

There’s one more hallway that needs the same treatment, and it’s in progress as I type.  Hope you guys like the transformation!

  1. Wow! That looks great, Anne! I really like the new calm and soothing blue/gray color, and of course the new white trim makes everything look crisp and clean. And I love that you painted the ceiling! I think I’m falling hard for color on the “5th wall” of a room. :)

    Great job!

  2. Brilliant work, Anne!
I think the light and comforting tones you chose really do justice to the hallway, especially since hallways are so narrow and dark anyway. Great work!

I have to say I loved the hunter green of the shelf pre-painting, but obviously that wouldn’t work in the hallway. I think the white shelf looks great where it is and I LOVE the bag that’s bronzey. Very Vogue. :)

Great work, as always! LOVE IT! Can’t wait to hopefully see it soon!

  3. Glad you guys like it! I’m pretty happy with it, too and it feels nice to walk through that hall now.

Chelsea- I painted the ceiling in the bedroom too, and it makes such a difference. It really is true about it being the 5th wall. :)

Savannah- I hope you guys will be able to make it down to see the house again. Can’t wait to see you!

I love the color; I never thought that I liked grey on walls, but it looks so sophisticated and fresh. Good Job! Imagine that you’re about ready to take a break from paint brushes and buckets, but all the hard work will make it nice to come home from a day at school to a beautiful house.

  5. Glad you like it, mom! I took a chance on the grey, but I’m really starting to like it. It will be nice when school starts and I can take a break and enjoy the things I’ve done.

The hallway looks great – amazing what a change a pleasant color of paint can make. The white woodwork really sets it off well. The thrift-store shelf adds so much interest besides being convenient for scarves, etc.
